We undertook the full renovation and restoration of the old, disused Roseburn toilet block, which had been out of service since the 1980s, transforming it into a beautiful café.
The project involved stripping out and demolishing internal walls before reconstructing them. During the removal of some brickwork, we uncovered original windows that had been hidden for years. Due to extensive timber rot, the roof required complete removal and reconstruction, including replacing the rafters and retiling. The building’s exterior harling was stripped, all pipework was replaced, and new power cables were installed. A full electrical rewire was carried out, including the installation of a new breaker board and electrical outlets.
New window and door frames were installed, external walls were rendered, and the entire interior was plasterboarded and plastered. Handmade window shutters were fitted, and the flooring was upgraded with a concrete base topped with tarmac. The exterior was painted with breathable paint, and an external tap was added. Inside, a kitchenette was installed with new worktops, a sink, and a water heater, along with a brand-new toilet.
The result is a beautifully restored building that now serves as a welcoming café, blending historical charm with modern functionality.
